Most Popular Questions (FAQ)
What is an emergency shower unit and when is it required?
An emergency shower unit provides immediate decontamination for workers exposed to hazardous chemicals, hydrocarbons, or other unsafe substances. It is typically required by safety regulations, site standards, and client HSE programs wherever there is a risk of skin or eye exposure that cannot be fully eliminated through engineering controls or PPE.
What are the specs of Smite’s emergency shower units?
Each Smite unit is a fully self-contained, 18-foot insulated dual-axle enclosed trailer with:
1,100 L of fresh potable water onboard
One emergency drench shower and eyewash station
Temperature-controlled water designed to deliver compliant flow for 20 minutes
Low entry height and spacious interior for rapid access and assisted rescue
Easy-access fill and drain points with controlled discharge (no water to ground)
Are your units compliant with OSHA and CSA requirements?
Yes. All units are designed and operated to meet OSHA and CSA emergency shower and eyewash requirements. Smite is also registered and compliant with ISN and ComplyWorks, supporting prequalification and contractor management requirements for major operators.
Can the units operate in winter and extreme cold?
Yes. All units are insulated and winterized for Canadian conditions, with tepid/temperature-controlled water and recirculation systems engineered for sub-zero environments. They are built for year-round use, including winter operations common in Western Canada.
Do the units need site power, or are they fully self-contained?
The units are fully self-contained. Each unit comes with its own power supply/generator and can run independently. Where available, they can also be connected to a 30A site power supply. This flexibility allows deployment on remote leases, plant sites, turnarounds, or construction projects without waiting on additional infrastructure.
How are the units transported and set up on site?
Every unit has a valid CVIP and is road-ready. You can:
Tow the unit yourself, or
Have Smite haul, position, and set it up for you.
On arrival, our team (or yours, if self-managed) positions the unit, completes basic checks, confirms water levels, and walks the site contact through operation and emergency use.
What industries do you serve?
Smite supports operations across Western Canada in:
Oil & Gas (upstream, midstream, downstream)
Mining
Agriculture
Manufacturing
Forestry and wood products
If your crews are working with chemicals, hydrocarbons, or other hazardous substances, our units are designed for that environment.
How long can we rent an emergency shower unit for?
We support short-term, project-based, and long-term rentals, including:
Single shutdowns or turnarounds
Capital projects and construction
Extended facility or pipeline programs
Multi-site or multi-unit campaigns
Rental terms can be structured daily, weekly, or monthly depending on your scope and duration.
What site requirements do we need in place?
Typical requirements include:
A suitable level pad or staging area for the trailer
Safe access and egress routes
Refuelling access for the generator (if running independently)
Alignment with your site HSE, emergency response, and ERP procedures
If you are unsure, Smite can help review your plan and recommend a simple deployment layout.
How is wastewater handled?
Smite units are designed so that no water is discharged directly to ground. Wastewater can be directed to appropriate site containment, sumps, or handling systems in line with your facility’s environmental and waste management requirements.
How do you maintain and inspect the units?
Each unit is:
Regularly inspected and maintained to OEM and regulatory standards
Supplied with a current CVIP and maintenance records
Checked before and after each deployment to ensure it is field-ready
On request, we can provide inspection documentation and any required paperwork for your HSE or audit teams.
How do we request a quote or book a unit?
You can request a quote, check availability, or book a unit through our Contact page or by reaching out directly to the Smite team. Provide your site location, dates, number of units required, and any special HSE or operational requirements, and we’ll come back with a tailored rental plan.
